Genre: Young Adult

When Emma Vaile's parents leave on mysterious business trip, it gives her the perfect excuse to be a rebellious teen. Throw some parties, get a tattoo (or maybe just a piercing), and enjoy the first few weeks of her junior year. Then her best friend stops talking to her, the cops crash her party, and Emma finds herself in the hands of a new guardian—her college-age "knight in J.Crew armor," Bennett Stern—and on a plane to his museum-like mansion in New England.

After enrolling at Thatcher Academy, Emma settles in by making friends with the popular legacy crowd. But she can't shake the strange visions that are haunting her. She has memories of Thatcher she can't explain, as if she's returning home to a place she's never been. Emma doesn't trust anyone anymore—except maybe Bennett. But he's about to reveal a ghostly secret to Emma. One that will explain the visions . . . and make Emma fear for her life.

I wasn't positive I would enjoy this by looking at the cover and reading the description but I knew after the first few pages It would keep me interested.  Emma from the start is very self reliant and has to figure stuff out on her own. When a friend betrays her, Bennett a boy/guy she has crushed on since she first laid eyes on him shows up and says he is her guardian and she is swept away to New England and is enrolled in Thatcher Academy where more spooky things start happening to her. The mystery of who Emma actually is, why evil is hunting her and why she can see things and do things nobody else can drags you through a whole new supernatural world in which people can see, hear, and control ghost. Lee's writing is smooth and engaging and the story is full of mystery, and fast paced spookiness. I cant wait to get my hands on Betrayal so that I can get the answers to all the questions Lee left unanswered.

I gave it 4/5 stars

  2. I never heard of this either and I am with you, I hate admitting it, but I do sometimes judge books by their covers. If I saw that cover, I would have passed right over it. Happy you gave it a chance hon and I hope to as well. Will check out. Thank you for the great review :)
