Should the good guy always win?
First, thank you so much for having me on your blog
today Stacy!! This is a question that I have asked myself a lot lately. Should
the good guy always win? I know that most of the time it’s expected. People
want to see a happy ever after. But, does it alway have to be the good guy who
gets it?
I think the bad guy has gotten the short end of the
stick for a while. They more often than not are interesting and have better
back stories than your typical protagonist.
I’ve gotten so sick of reading the same story over and over again. Boy
meets girl, bad guy enters and threatens them, fight ensues, good guys win and
bad guy slinks off to lick his wounds. Where’s the fun in that? I’ve made it my goal to have at least one of
my bad guys win. Not sure when it’s going to happen, well, I do. But, I’m not
going to tell you yet.
I think the bad guy should get a happy ever after. Don’t
they need love too? Don’t they want to ride off into the sunset? Books would be
a lot more interesting if we were never sure who was going to win. Besides,
some of the bad guys are just so good. We have characters like Damon from The
Vampire Diaries or Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse books who have made the bad
guy more loveable. They are delightfully wicked, with just a touch of goodness
in them. The intensity and the range of emotion you can get from a bad guy has
always been a draw for me. The inner struggle, that bit of them that craves the
darkness. It makes reading that much more fun for me.
What do you guys think? Do you prefer a white knight, or
a dark prince?
Thanks again for having me on the blog Stacy!!

I real life I'll take the White Knight thank you, but in my reading the Dark Prince captures my heart.
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with that. Love to read and write about Dark Princes.
DeleteThanks for the great post and congrats to Jessica on the new release! Sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks Erin!
DeleteLove your blog Stacy!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks =)
DeleteThanks for the great post and giveaway. That is an interesting question. I do know if I would side with the bad guy having a happy ending too, I think it would depend on the genre I was reading in.
ReplyDeleteCheers

Very true. In paranormal, the bad guy is usually bad due to circumstance and less because of just being evil.
DeleteI agree that some "bad" guys are much more interesting than the good guys. I think that a spin-off book with the bad guy winning would work well.
ReplyDeleteBad boys are so intriguing to me lately....
DeleteI like the idea of having a bad guy redeem himself and win :)

I like that idea too, although I also like the idea of the bad guy being who is he and still winning lol.
DeleteThanks for the awesome giveaway. I would love to read this book. I love when a bad guy redeems himself and succeeds. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Tore! I hope you do read the book and love it like I do.
DeleteMy pick would be a Dark Prince, bad guys turning good is HOT...lol. Thanks for the chance to win :D
ReplyDeleteGood Luck to Everyone else!

Couldn't agree more!
DeleteFirst, thank you for the giveaway. Second, as much as I'd like to cheer for the bad guys, I think I'm always going to root for the good guys. You can always tease us with making us think the bad guys are going to win, but in the end I like the good guys being victorious.
ReplyDeleteGood point. Most books do give you a tease at the bad guy winning

DeleteI think a Dark Prince. More mysterious, and I agree that a bad boy, turned good, equals sexy.
ReplyDeleteI love a good mysterious guy

Thank you for sharing with us. I recently got Mark of the Witch and am looking forward to the read. I think the answer is it depends. If the bad guy has a spark, oh yeah they are fun, but if he is just a total sociopath, maybe not so much LOL
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the book when you read it!!
DeleteIt just depends on what im in the mood for. no, the good guy should not always win. not every book should have a happy ending wither. i am devastated when there is no happy ending.. but it adds another element and keeps a variety of choices out there for us to read.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer a dark prince. but sometimes i need to read about a white knight. :)
would not mind a bad guy winning as long as he is only a killer of bad guys.and not out to hurt woman and kids.
