No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…
As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…
MAGIC BREAKS is jam packed with awesomeness. I'm not really sure what more the writing team of Ilona Andrews could have given us in MAGIC BREAKS and I don't want to give away spoilers because lets face it, you're going to want to savor every single second of every single scene in this book.
MAGIC BREAKS starts with Curan going out of town and leaving Kate in charge. She does a fantastic job of keeping everything together but Hugh is out for blood and Curan is just a tad late to the party. Kate saves the pack but she unfortunately couldn't save herself. MAGIC BREAKS ends with a major life change in Curan and Kate's life after a roller coaster of a book.
Again, a TON happens, but one of the biggest developments was that we FINALLY meet Roland and end that particular story arc. He wasn't exactly what I expected but I was highly satisfied with the events that took place.
The never-ending world building is just one of the awesome parts of this series. It get's better and better as the series goes on. When you think you have something figured out, you're proven wrong. When you think you know the players, more are thrown into the mix. Kate continues to surprise me and I honestly can't imagine getting enough of her and this series.
I gave it 5/5 stars

I have been looking forward to this book but I'm going to wait for the mass market paperback. Kate is one of my favorite heroines. Thanks for the review.
