With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. But Sookie suspects otherwise and she and Sam work together to uncover the culprit - and the twisted motive for the attack. But her attention is divided. Though she can't 'read' vampires, Sookie knows her lover Eric Northman and his 'child' Pam well - and she realises that they are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, she is drawn into the plot -which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human - and that there is a new Queen on the board . . .MAN what is with the vampires that date Sookie always having to be a disappointment. I'm so angry at Eric right now and I really hope he redeems himself in the next book. I swear if Sookie ends back up with Bill though I'm going to have to stop reading the series. Sookie and Eric's relationship were at the forefront for most of the book with other situations taking much minor roles. Although I enjoyed DEAD RECKONING I found it was a bit slower then previous books and nothing really huge happened. Threads were kept loose with all the new information that is thrown in and relationships of all sorts were left in limbo. The book as a whole had a much more serious feel to it. I definitely think book 12 is going to be a doozie.
I gave it 3.5/5 stars
It was hard for me to decide between a 3 and a 3.5 on this one... Compared to the others, it was a bit of a letdown. Hoping the next one will be better!
ReplyDeleteThis is the reason I have not yet read this book, I'm a HUGE fans of the earlier books in the series, but it seem like since "Dean and Gone" the books have been really going downhill. I though Eric's character took a major disappointing turn in the last book and it sounds like it doesn't get much better...
ReplyDeleteAnd I am SO with you, Sookie had better not end up back with Bill, anyone is better than Bill (except maybe Calvin, ew).
