Interview: Eat Dessert First by Brantwijn Serrah

UFI welcomes Brantwijn Serrah Author of Eat Dessert First. Thanks for Joining us!!

This or That

Angels or Demons – Demons. They are so much more interesting...

Vampires or Shifters – I like shifters when they're done well, but I still gotta choose vampires. Classic.

Left or Right – Left. In honor of my oldest brother, all of my main characters are left-handed.

Up or Down – Ha. This one really depends. I think "up" is more positive, but there's lots to be said about "going down".

Pizza or Pasta – Pasta, especially any cheesy pasta.

Coffee or Tea – Tea, no sugar.

Coke or Pepsi – I don't really like colas, so I prefer Cherry 7Up or Cream Soda.

YA or Adult – Adult.

Knives or Guns – Knives. My partner is the gun guy.

Reading or Writing –I like both but I'll spend my free time writing.

Facebook or Twitter – Facebook has more versatility for me.

In 2010, Brantwijn Serrah embarked on a personal challenge: to write 365 Sexy Days, a blog of erotic fiction, poetry, and review. The blog later became Foreplay and Fangs, Brantwijn's current erotic domain. As part of the Sexy Days project, Brantwijn made it a goal to explore a variety of different lifestyles, interests, and turn-ons. When it came time to look at food used in seduction, Eat Dessert First came about. It has grown to become one of her favorite short stories.

When she isn't visiting the worlds of immortals, demons, dragons and goblins, Brantwijn fills her time with artistic endeavors: sketching, painting, customizing My Little Ponies, and sewing plushies for friends. She can't handle coffee unless there's enough cream and sugar to make it a milkshake, but try and sweeten her tea and she will never forgive you. She moonlights as a futon for four lazy cats, loves tabletop role-play games, and can spend hours watching Futurama, Claymore, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer while she writes or draws.

Brantwijn has published two full-length erotic novels with Breathless Press: Lotus Petals and Goblin Fires. In addition to these, Brantwijn has had several stories published in anthologies by Breathless Press, including the 2013 Crimson Anthology and 2014 Ravaged Anthology. She's also had a short story published in the Cleiss Press Big Book of Orgasm and the anthology Coming Together Through The Storm. She hopes to have several more tales to tell as time goes on. She has author pages on Goodreads and Amazon, and loves to see reader comments on her work. Her short stories occasionally pop up at Foreplay and Fangs, her blog at http://brantwijn.blogspot.com.

Excerpt:

I lifted the bubbling saucepan up and over to ladle the crème brûlée into each dish with slow, patient care, letting the rich mixture cascade down in rippling slow spirals as I moved the pan in little circles.

"There," I said when the last ramekin was filled. "And now you can lick the spoon."

I pronounced this with open brightness and offered him the spoon I'd stirred with, dripping with white chocolate and vanilla cream. Before he could take it, though, I snatched it back, holding it up in front of my own lips and sticking out my tongue to run it coyly over the back of the spoon.

"Mmm," I said. "Good."

He took the spoon from me, his smile reflecting the same naughty suggestion as mine. He licked the spoon as I had, dragging his tongue across it almost lewdly, dark eyes sparkling. Then he grinned, put the utensil down on the gleaming brushed chrome of the pastry counter, and—devilish boy—snuck his fingers into one of the ramekins, trailing them through the cooling, creamy sugar until he found one of the raspberries and plucked it up from the dish. It dripped more white chocolate cream on his hand and the front of his crisp shirt as he popped it into his luscious mouth.

Review & Giveaway: Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones

Sixth Grave on the Edge
Author: Darynda Jones
Release Date: May 20, 2014
Publisher: St. Martins Press
ISBN:  1250045630
ISBN13: 9781250045638
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Review Copy Source:Publisher via NetGalley

Few things in life can come between a grim reaper and her coffee, but the sexy, sultry son of Satan is one of them. Now that Reyes Farrow has asked for her hand, Charley Davidson feels it's time to learn more about his past, but Reyes is reluctant to open up. When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn't come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.

Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she's used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.

Dun Dun Duuuuun. THEIR BACK! Every Charley Davidson book has left me with a book hangover and SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE is no different. I couldn't pick up a book for a good 24 hours (which by now you know is very weird for me) and even now, over a month after I read book 6, I'm still thinking about it and waiting to get my hands on book 7.

I just love Charley's mouth! OK that sounded dirty, I shall rephrase. I love the way she thinks and her way with words. She is beyond hilarious and I wish I had a friend like her. The humor in this series is off the chart and it is always done so darn well. I love learning more about Charley, Reyes and the other characters as the series goes along. I am never left un-surprised (is that even a word?) about the bombs that are dropped. And I must say (even though you will have NO clue until you read the book). The missing wall moment was HILARIOUS. Ahh that Reyes. He is something else.

That ending *eyes bugging out of my head* WHY must you drop that news and end it? I will go crazy until I get my hands on SEVENTH GRAVE AND NO BODY. I only have a few slight issues with SIXTH GRAVE, 1: There were some pretty big questions and plot happenings raised that we never got answers to and 2: the massive cliffhanger ending.

Haven't started the series yet? I feel bad for you, you are SO missing out.

I gave it 4/5 stars

* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Interview: Steel Your Soul by Decadent Kane

UFI welcomes Decadent Kane Author of The trouble with elves series. Thanks for Joining us!!

What can you tell my readers about yourself that they might not know from looking on your bio or reading in another interview?

As my elfish heritage allows me to keep a whisp as a pet in the elfin realm, here I'm not so lucky- instead I own three dogs and a cat. (All of them think they belong in a lap no matter how big they are.)

What do you enjoy doing on your down time?

Reading books, looking at funny videos, and wandering around the internet.

What is your Favorite part of writing?

Creating the story.

Do you have any certain routines you must follow as you write?

No music and my character has to have a name before I can write him or her.
What are some of your Favorite books or Authors in the Urban Fantasy/ Paranormal Genres?
Kresley Cole, Christine Feehan, Patricia Briggs, and Kim Harrison

How would you pitch Steele Your Soul: trouble with elves book 3 to someone who has not heard of it before?

An elfalicious Killian Jones look alike graces the pages as captain Joren Steele and the elfess, Pepper, has caught his eye. Someone else wants her too and her soul will be staked on both. Pirate booty has a whole new meaning when elves are involved...don't keep the captain waiting.

Can you tell us a little bit about the world that Steele Your Soul: trouble with elves book 3 is set in?

There is top side, which is above ground, and then the underground. The underground is where all the diseased drow elves live and they need souls in order to stay alive. Joren Steele goes both top and under smuggling their drow goods.

The elfin realm has one big city in the entire realm, otherwise elves and many other...creatures live in hand built cabins or trees around the city and within the city.

And the trees here....are so oversized a human family could live in one like they would an apartment building...only the elves carve them out and create homes inside the actual tree.

Do you have a favorite scene in Steele Your Soul?

This is going to sound crazy, but the ending scene with the drow king is my favorite. He shocked me so much it just sticks with me.

Which character was your favorite to write about? What about the hardest to write about?

Joren was both my favorite and the hardest character to write. I loved his confidence, but the way he spoke made his dialogue hard to write.

What Other Projects can we look forward to reading from you?

Book 3, A hint of Cayenne- has been contracted with my publisher and all I can say is between a bad fairy, a bounty hunting elf named Hawthorn, and a jar of Honey- My poor elfess, Cayenne- doesn't stand much of chance- but watch out for her right hook.

An elfess in human form, Decadent enjoys dipping her fingers into the human realm where she took pen to paper and began the tales of the trouble with elves. Her obsessions include reading, Dean Winchester, and honey.

She will devour your soul with glimpses of the feral ridden drow elves, with their dark skin and soul consuming. She'll sneak morsels of naughty thoughts to you via goblins, and seduce you into stepping inside the elven realm where females disappear when lust takes over among other elfish troubles.

Beware the sprites.

Follow the wisps.

But never look a drow elf king in the eyes...

When Pepper set out for the day, the last thing she expected was to come face to face with a pirate. But when she locks eyes with the Captain, she's ready to let him pillage or plunder whatever he wants. At least until his drow shipmate decided to steal her for himself.

Captain Joren Steele has a love for his ship, money, and females, usually in that order. When Pepper steps into his life, he's certain his love 'em and leave 'em status will remain intact. But when he discovers she's a victim of the drow, he has to make a choice. His ship or the elfess.

Excerpt:

Pepper slammed into something solid. "Oaf." She fell on her rear and looked up.

Joren stood in front of her, tall, dark, and so hot.

"What are you doing, Tide?" His voice came out low.

Pepper peeked behind her. The drow had stopped.

"She's mine, pirate. Hand her over. You work for us. You have to do what I say."

Joren grinned. "Ye poxy bilge-sucker. I don't listen to ye. I help your king. He pays me to carry the cargo, not to hand over ladies to ye." His chest puffed out, and he set his legs apart, ready for a fight.

The drow didn't comment. Instead, he stepped over Pepper and slammed himself into Joren as he stomped off down the deck. Joren didn't budge or turn around to watch the elf go. His features softened, and he bent down on one knee in front of Pepper. Her heart skipped for an entirely new reason.

"Three saves in one day, me beauty. Ya owe me." He smiled and held out his rough hand to her.

She took it. "Three? I recall two. The crates and just now. Besides, I had the drow under control, so really, you saved me from the falling crates." She smoothed out her clothes and flipped her hair back. She should thank him, but he was so smug, looking over at her as if she was on the menu of his sexual dining experience.

Joren chuckled. A low sound, which lifted his shoulders. "Three, elfess." He pulled her grandmother's bag of spice from his front pocket and dropped it into her hands. He winked at her. "Iffin' ye had that drow under control, then what ye be doin' at me feet no more than a moment ago?"

Pepper raised an eyebrow. "You stepped in my way." She tucked the brown pouch into her pocket. She wanted off this wretched boat. She turned around and stormed away. The last thing she needed was to encourage a pirate. What did they do again? Oh, kill and loot, or pillage and plunder?

A hand spun her around by the elbow, and she found herself face-to-face with Joren and those blue eyes. He grabbed hold of her chin with his fingertips. "Wait a minute. I don't even get a thank you?" He frowned.

"Thanks." Pepper set her jaw.

"I be needin' something a little better than that. Tide will be back, and I will pay the brunt of saving your sweet little ass."

"What do you want?" She tried to break free, but he held fast.

"This." He bent over and claimed her lips with his own.

Review: Avoiding Alpha by Aileen Erin

Avoiding Alpha
Author:Aileen Erin
Release Date: May 13, 2014
Publisher: Ink Monster LLC
Alpha Girl Book #2
ASIN:  B00FZYG73A
Genre: Young Adult
Review Copy Source: NetGalley

Seventeen-year-old Tessa McCaide has come a long way since her abrupt entrance into the world of werewolves, but she still has just as far to go before she’s comfortable with turning full wolf. In the meantime, she’s avoiding the topic of shifting to four legs any way she can. Thankfully her mate, Dastien Laurent, is quite the distraction.

When she finds her best friend, Meredith, getting sick in the bathroom, Tessa knows something’s majorly wrong. Meredith was cursed years ago, and the dark magic kept her wolf dormant—only now the wolf is awake, and that same spell is killing her.

Tessa has no intention of sitting around while Meredith wastes away. Even if it means playing with magic she doesn’t understand, she’ll do anything to save Meredith’s life. Including bargaining with the local coven of witches and its crazed leader, whose only goal is getting Tessa to join the witchy ranks.

Can Tessa save her friend without losing herself?

This will be short and sweet because the book was short and sweet and I just don't have a lot to say about it. There wasn't AS much going on in AVOIDING ALPHA as there was in book 1 but it was still enjoyable. It definitely felt like more of a filler book with its novella length and little advancement of the overall world and story.

The main story does feature Tessa and Dastien but most of the story revolves around Tessa figuring out how to fix Meredith who is very close to dying, due dark magic holding her wolf prisoner. We did get some insight into the witch half of Tessa's family as well as witnessing Tessa fight through her aversion to shifting.

The overall flow of the story was nice and the plot was interesting I was just expecting more from book 2 after the dynamite debut that book 1 brought us. I look forward to seeing what book 3 will bring to the series.

I gave it 3/5 stars

Deadly Angels #4

No wicked wenches or wild rampages…it's been centuries since Mordr the Berserker was turned into a Vangel-a Viking Vampire Angel-as punishment for his sin of wrath, and he's been frustrated ever since. It's not so bad being stuck in modern-day Las Vegas. What better place to slay Lucipires, or demon vampires, than the original Sin City. But then Mordr Sigurdsson's mission is expanded to a new assignment: protect lust-worthy Miranda Hart.

Miranda's well-ordered life turned into chaos when she unexpectedly inherited her late cousin's five children. Now, her cousin's dangerous husband is about to be paroled, and she needs a miracle to keep them all safe. That miracle arrives on her doorstep in the form of a very buff, handsome man with a very strange name. Mordr wants nothing to do with a red-haired wench or children. Miranda wants nothing to do with gorgeous hunk who claims to be a Viking.

As Miranda and Mordr give in to temptation, they must decide if they fit in each other's worlds-before their enemies close in on them.
