Quick Thought Reviews

Sometimes I read a book where I just don't have a lot to say about it. Hence the name quick thought reviews. These will be short and sweet.

One People. One Union. One Future.

Wynne’s entire life is dictated by the Union: the clothes she wears, the books she reads, even the genes she inherited. And like every other girl in the Union, Wynne dreams of being chosen as a Carrier on her 16th birthday—one of the elite selected to carry the future generation within her womb. Wynne and her best friend Odessa are certain they will both make the cut, but when Odessa is chosen and whisked off to a life of privilege, Wynne is left behind to work as an assistant, delivering perfectly planned babies for the Union.

As Odessa slips deeper and deeper into the role of Carrier, Wynne begins to see the Union for what it really is: a society that criminalizes the notion of love, and forbids words like mother and family.

For the first time in her life, Wynne is faced with a choice: submit to the will of the Union, or find a way to escape and save Odessa before she is lost forever.

DELIVER ME reminded me a little of the Eve Series by Anna Carey, but instead the girls WANT to be be used for their uterus and live in luxury.  When Wynne doesn't make it as one of the revered carriers she is crushed. She soon finds out being chosen isn't all its cracked up to be and is intent on helping her best friend Odessa escape the life before its to late.

I liked the characters and I liked the pace of the story but there was a lot of background to cover and it felt like it ended just as it was starting to begin. I very much hope there will be a book 2 because the ending would be a horrible let down instead of a cliffhanger.

I gave it 3.5/5 stars

 Every sacrifice has consequences.

Sixteen-year-old Rowan has spent most of his life living among the mortals—learning to control the element of fire, impatiently awaiting the day his vengeful mother, Queen Prisma, will abdicate her throne. When he finally returns to Avalon for his coronation, his mother insists he must first prove his loyalty to the court by completing a secret mission:

Kill Kalin, the half-human, half-elemental daughter of the air court king.

Willing to do anything to remove his mother from power, he agrees to sacrifice the halfling. He returns to the mortal world with his best friend, Marcus, determined to kill the princess. But as he devises a plan, he starts to question whether or not he's capable of completing such a heinous task. And what price he will pay if he refuses?

This prequel novella is FREE and Amazon, and Barnes & Noble!

In THE SHADOW PRINCE we learn about Rowan as he learns how very vengeful his Queen Mother can be and how much her starts to care about a girl he doesn't even know. Its a very quick read but packed with plenty of action and danger in a new unique world. By the end I was excited to read what would come next.

THE SHADOW PRINCE was a great introduction to the world of Mortal Enchantment and gave us a great bit of background on the characters and story to come.

I gave it 4/5 stars

Vampire's Thirst
Release Date: May 6, 2014
Publisher: Forever Yours
Awakening Book #2
ISBN:  1455552607
ISBN13: 9781455552603
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Starting where Book 1 left off, Duncan MacDonnough has assumed leadership of the local vampire conclave and changes are being met with resistance.

Kimber Treat, the necromancer everyone (including her) blames for starting the zombie apocalypse in the first place. Duncan and Kimber are new in their love and the complications of zombies and hungry vampires puts stress on an already shaky relationship. Duncan wants to keep her safe, but Kimber still believes she can end the Outbreak. Will the cost be too great?

There is not much of a break between book 1 and book 2. Safe in the Vampire Conclave Kimber works towards a cure for the outbreak. We get plenty of little surprises along the way as well as plenty of romance between Kimber and Duncan. Kimber's up and down emotions was a little annoying but you quickly get over that.

I didn't feel like there was much growth with the characters but the end of the book did a good job of wrapping up the storyline. If your looking for a quick easy paranormal romance. This short series is for you.

I gave it 3.5/5 stars

Tee is Vegas's favorite casino hostess, ready to grant her high rollers their every quirky wish. But when her own wish to financially help her Paiute Tribe finally comes true, she decides to double-down with lady luck and go for a hot hook-up with her sexy boss, Leo. Unfortunately, Tees about to find out why their romance is such a long shot—Leo is a shape-shifting dragon.

Leo needs a proper dragon mate to save his waning dragon form, and despite their magnetic sexual attraction, he knows Tee is anything but proper—or a dragon. But when threats arise from Tee's tribe, Leos protective instincts kick in. Can he give up his dragon form for the woman he loves—even if it means shortening his life? Or has Tee finally had enough of having her heart dragged around?

Tee has a pretty neat job. She works at the casino as hostess. Her clients can be a little weird but she enjoys what she does. She makes good money but she is currently helping the tribe out financially and staying with some of her coworkers to save money.  From day one her boss Leo has had a pull on her and no matter what she does he doesn't seem to 'take the bait'. Leo is close to losing his dragon if he doesn't find his dragon mate soon. Tee is just the kind of woman he wants but she doesn't have his dragon mark and has refused to get involved with her. He doesn't understand the huge pull and protectiveness he feels for her either.

For some reason, the story behind STOP DRAGON MY HEART AROUND didn't feel as involved as LUCK OF THE DRAGON did. I still enjoyed it, the story just felt shorter. I found Tee to be pretty stubborn and I hated her initial reaction to finding out what Leo was. I am glad it didn't last long but it kinda put me off her character for a bit. Leo was also a pretty stubborn person. When he decided he wanted Tee even though it might mean losing his dragon for good my heart melted for him. I really enjoyed getting to know some of the secondary characters while watching the newest love match form.

The world that the Las Vegas Dragons live in is pretty neat. I like that they have a territory right out in the open yet no one knows they are there. I love the alpha-ness the male characters get towards their women. Both stories in the series have been fast paced, full of sexual tension, and fun. I look forward to seeing who's love story comes next.

I gave it 3.5 /5 stars

Guest Blog & Giveaway: Don't Blackmail the Vampire by Tiffany Allee

UFI welcomes Tiffany Allee Author of Don't Blackmail the Vampire. Thanks for Joining us!!

Five More Favorite Vampires

It’s probably pretty obvious that I have a thing for vampires. I write about them, I read about them, and I watch movies and television shows about them. But no, this post is not to analyze my (slightly obsessive) love of vampires. That’s a rabbit hole it’s probably best not to jump in. :)

Earlier in my Don’t Blackmail the Vampire tour, I created a top ten list of my favorite fanged characters. This was tough, because even with a smidgeon of cheating, it was almost impossible to get my list of favorites down to a mere ten(ish).

Instead of limiting myself, I’ve decided to indulge and list five more favorites, because really, all my favorites belong on the same list. The awesome list. ;)

So without further ado and not really in any order, here are some of my favorite vamps.

1. Kisten (The Hollows books)

Aww…Kisten. Stupid allergies. There’s something in my eye.

2. Bones (Night Huntress books)

Charming and awesome in so many (panty-dropping) ways, I couldn’t leave Bones off an extended list. Especially since I think he was probably the most-missed from the first!

3. Lestat (Vampire Chronicles)

I loved him in the books and in Interview with the Vampire (although probably more so in the books!). Charm in a vampire never fails to err…charm me.

4. Vlad (Night Prince books)

He’s so alpha that there are times I want to kick him hard in the shin, but what a badass.

5. Creepy Kate Daniel’s Vamps (Kate Daniels Books)

Okay, this isn’t a single character—and really, not even a group of characters so much as a force of nature in the Kate Daniel’s world—but I had to include them. The way Ilona Andrews has handled the vampire myth in these books is so cool and original, and I totally dig it.

Who are your favorite vampires?

Review: Blind Faith by Rebecca Zanetti

Blind Faith
Release Date: May 6, 2014
Publisher: Forever
Sin Brothers Book #3
ISBN:   1455574481
ISBN13: 9781455574483
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Review Copy Source: NetGalley
A betrayal he couldn't forget . . .

For Nate Dean, love is a four-letter word. As part of a secret black-ops military unit, he and his brothers were genetically engineered by the government to be ruthless soldiers with an expiration date. They were loyal only to one another . . . until Nate laid eyes on the woman who stole his heart and blew his world apart. Now, years later, his family is still paying the price for his mistake. But as time runs out, there's only one person who can save his family: the very woman Nate swore he'd never trust again.

A love she couldn't deny . . .

The moment Audrey Madison spies Nate across a crowded ballroom, she can barely breathe. He's just as undeniably sexy as she remembers, yet there's an edge to him now that's as irresistible as it is dangerous. When he asks for her help, Audrey can't refuse. But she has secrets of her own-secrets that, if Nate ever discovers them, may cost them both their lives . . .

OH OH another Sin Brother, here we go. Nate was very much in love with Audrey when he was younger but she broke his heart when she left him. Many years later he plans to use her to help save him and his brothers. Little does he realize that he isn't going to let her escape him this time. Audrey left Nate to save him but she has no want for any other and when he walks back into her life she has a hard time keeping her distance.

I don't know what it is about this series but once you start reading you just cant seem to put the books down. BLIND FAITH was no different. The romance aspect of the story was deep and emotion filled. The action was intense and had me on the edge of my seat, and the way the brothers care for each other and the women they love makes me swoon every time I think of them. In addition to another couple being formed we get a great new addition to the family in the form of an adopted Grandpa. He seriously stole my heart and I can't wait to see him in future books.

There is only one more brother left so I am sad to assume that the series will soon be ending but I have loved the ride so far so I will savor it to the very end. This series is definitely one for the bookshelf.

I gave it 5/5 stars
