Review: Crimson Wind by Diana Pharaoh Francis

Crimson Wind
Author:Diana Pharaoh Francis
Release Date: December 28, 2010
Publisher: Pocket
Horngate Witches Book #2
ISBN:   1416598154
ISBN13: 9781416598152
Genre: Urban Fantasy

THERE ARE GOOD GUYS. THERE ARE BAD GUYS. AND THEN THERE’S MAX.

Max knows what trusting the wrong person can cost you. Her former friend Giselle, a powerful witch, enslaved Max years ago, turning her into a Shadowblade—a deadly warrior compelled to fight for Giselle. But there’s more at stake now than Max’s thirst for revenge. The Guardians, overseers of the magical world, have declared war on humanity and on any witches not standing with them. Max and Giselle have come to an uneasy truce in order to protect what’s left of Horngate, their coven’s home. Max would do anything for Horngate—even give herself over to a mysterious otherworldly creature in the nearby mountains in exchange for his help. But first, she intends to save the mortal family she left behind. And Alexander, the Shadowblade warrior who could be her closest ally or her deadliest enemy, is going with her.

On a road trip into the unknown, Max and Alexander face wild magic, desperate enemies, and battles that bruise both body and soul. But the greatest challenge will come from unexpected revelations that test everything Max believes about who she is—and where her loyalties lie. . .

OMG I LOVED IT you must go buy it now. If you asked my poor neglected children what mommy did all day they would tell you I was reading and ignoring them (dont worry Hubby was home). I could not put this down. I love Max, she is a strong, independent kick ass Heroin. There was not a ton on side characters in book 2, mostly just Max and Alexander. Scooter makes more appearances. The sexual tension between Max and Alexander is at an all time high. The world is at war. Max's Family is in danger and she needs to get to them to bring them back to Horngate. Tons of answers were given in CRIMSON WIND and tons of potential left for future books. I seriously can't wait to read what comes next. Don't forget to read book 1 BITTER NIGHT before you pick up CRIMSON WIND.

Every new year people make resolutions to change aspects of themselves they believe are negative. A majority of people revert back to how they were before and feel like failures. This year I challenge you to a new resolution. I challenge you to just be yourself.

Early Review: Pale Demon by Kim Harrison

Publisher: EOS
The Hollows Book #9
ISBN:

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Review copy source: Librarything.com early review program

Condemned to death for black magic and shunned, Rachel Morgan has three days to somehow get to the annual witches convention in San Francisco and clear her name. If she fails, the only way she can escape death is to live in the demonic ever after . . . for ever after.

Banned from the flight lists, Rachel teams up with elven tycoon Trent Kalamack, headed for the West Coast for his own mysterious business. But Rachel isn’t the only passanger along for the ride. Can a witch, an elf, a living vampire, and a pixy in one car survive for over 2,300 miles? And that’s not counting the assassin on their tail.

A fearsome demon walks the sunlight, freed after centuries of torment to slay the innocent and devour souls. But his ultimate prey is Rachel Morgan. While the powerful witch with nerves of steel will do whatever it takes to stay alive, even embracing her own demonic nature may not be enough to save her.

Im going to start off by telling you have to start at book 1 DEAD WITCH WALKING to follow along with the Rachel Morgan/The Hollows series or you will miss way to much.

Rachel really has grown a ton throughout this series. I cried quite a bit during PALE DEMON. There is a ton of shocking and good surprises, lots of new information and situations. Lots of feelings finally coming to pass. Rachel never has anything to come to her easily and there is ton of tough situations, drama and fighting for life situations. I love all the characters in The Hollows they never disappoint me. I have high hopes for a certain relationship that might be starting. PALE DEMON was a fantastic edition to The Hollows that leaves a lot open at the end to bring into the next book of the series CAN'T wait to read more.
