Review: Blue-Blooded Vamp by Jaye Wells

Blue-Blooded Vamp
Author: Jaye Wells
Release Date: June 1, 2012
Publisher: Orbit
Sabina Kane Book #5
ISBN:  0316178454
ISBN13: 9780316178457
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Review Copy Source: Netgalley

The epic conclusion to the amazing Sabina Kane urban fantasy series.

Sabina Kane is on the hunt. Her prey: Cain, the father of the vampire race and the one who murdered her family and her friends. Unfortunately, Cain is hunting Sabina, too. The one man who holds the key to defeating Cain is, of course, Abel. A mage with secrets to spare and, hopefully, the power to match it. Unfortunately, for Sabina, he's in Rome and may not want to be found.

Sabina sets out for Italy with her friends, Giguhl and Adam Lazarus, to track down the only man who can get her the revenge she hungers for. But will he help her or oppose her? And just who is Abel, really? Worst of all, when Sabina figures out the goddess Lilith has a plan for her-she realizes this trip is getting deadlier by the minute.

As they say: when in Rome-SURVIVE.

BLUE-BLOODED VAMP is the 5th and final book in the Sabina Kane series. We have watched Sabina go through a lot since RED-HEADED STEPCHILD. She had been an outcast with the vampires and is now a respected part of the Mage family. She has lost, she has loved and she is ready to finally show Cain where he can stick it.

Sabina is still grieving her sisters death when she heads out with her lover Adam and her friendly demon sidekick Giguhl to find Abel the one person that might know how to defeat Cain. We get tons of action, surprising revelations and all of our favorite characters are along for the ride. The final battle played out at a great pace and left me satisfied.

There was not one Sabina Kane novel that I didn't love and I'm happy to say that Jaye Wells not only gave us another great novel but she ended the series in a way that made it complete. Cant wait to see what Jaye might bring us next.

I gave it 4/5 stars

Review: Kiss the Dead by Laurell K Hamilton

Kiss the Dead
Author: Laurell K. Hamilton
Release Date: June 5, 2012
Publisher: Berkley
Anita Blake Book #21
ISBN:   0425247546
ISBN13: 9780425247549
Genre: UF/PR
When a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people—kids, grandparents, soccer moms—all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there’s one martyr, there will be more…

But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them…

If you have been reading the Anita Blake series this long you know the characters and you know the scores so I wont go into synopsis here and jump right in.

Things I'm not liking AT ALL: My biggest dislike about KISS THE DEAD is the fact that Anita even though she is not Bi and has always been extremely uncomfortable about it (and still says she is very uncomfortable with it) talks about that fact that she now has another woman in HER bed. Laurell has changed her way to much and I'm really not liking that she changed her despite her feelings yet again. All the men are getting a little ridiculous. The heard needs to be culled and even Anita thinks so, although I have to admit that I do appreciate that the whole book wasn't filled with orgy scenes.HATE her relationship with Sin, He should NOT be one of her lovers its just disturbing.

Things I enjoyed: LOVED that we get Anita back in the field again like book 20. Very much enjoyed Zerbrowski and watching Anita and him interact in the field and in their lunch scene. They had me cracking up and smiling. Love her relationship with Nathaniel and Micah.

Other thoughts: Asher, Wow I really hope that Jean Claude sends him away like he said as he really needs to get over himself and his issues. There is no excuse for his behavior. Wish we had more Jean-Claude scenes (not sex scenes just in general like they used to be together). The ending, How are her colleagues going to treat her now seeing her fall apart? Will they see her as more human or will they see her as weak where they saw her as nothing but strong before?!?

The Anita Blake series to me is one of those series I'm so invested in that I cant imagine not getting the next book even if its filled with nothing but orgy scenes and horrific writing because I have to know what happens next. Its hard to rate this far into the series after so many bad books so I'm going with the middle ground.

I gave it 3/5 stars

Guest Blog & Giveaway: Tracy Deebs

UFI welcomes Tracy Deebs Author of The Tempest Series. Thanks for Joining us!!

Character This or That- Tempest

Coke or Pepsi: Dr. Pepper, actually

salt water or fresh water: Salt water.  You can’t surf in a lake

Humans or mermaids: Humans, always.  The longer I’m a mermaid, the more I’m figuring out how vicious they can be.

Muscles or brains: Both.  I’m lucky because Kona and Mark are both smart, strong and sexy!

vampires or werewolves: I’m a selkie girl, to tell you the truth …

cellphone or mind speak: Mindspeak.  Cell phones don’t work in the ocean.

swimsuit or clothes: All swimsuit, all the time.

tail or legs: Depends on what I’m doing.  Legs are easier to negotiate with, even underwater, but I go much faster with the tail.  So if I’m running from Tiamat’s henchmen, I’m all about my tail. Otherwise, I choose legs.

books or music: That’s a hard one.  It’s a little hard to read or listen to music in the water …  But when I’m on land, books, definitely.

Thanks so much for having me today!  I really appreciate it. And just to make things interesting, you tell me: Ocean or Mountains?  Leave a comment for a chance to win an autographed copy of Tempest Rising.

Tempest Unleashed
Tempest #2
June 5, 2012
Tempest Maguire is happy with her decision to embrace her mermaid nature and live among her mother’s clan within the ocean’s depths. Even though training to one day ascend the throne for the aging mermaid queen is rigorous, she finds refuge in the arms of Kona, the selkie who first opened her up to her mermaid side. But when word comes that one of her brothers has been gravely injured on land, Tempest immediately rushes to his side—which also brings her back to her old flame, Mark. And in her absence, a deadly battle begins raging at the hands of Tempest’s old nemesis, the sea witch Tiamat. As the dangerous war erupts, Tempest’s two loves—Kona and Mark, sea and land—will collide for the first time, both to protect her and to force her to choose.

Giveaway: Shadow Sight Prize Pack by E.J. Stevens

Welcome to Harborsmouth, where monsters walk the streets unseen by humans…except those with second sight.

Whether visiting our modern business district or exploring the cobblestone lanes of the Old Port quarter, please enjoy your stay.  When you return home, do tell your friends about our wonderful city—just leave out any supernatural details.

Don’t worry—most of our guests never experience anything unusual.  Otherworlders, such as faeries, vampires, and ghouls, are quite adept at hiding within the shadows.  Many are also skilled at erasing memories.  You may wake in the night screaming, but you won’t recall why.  Be glad that you don’t remember—you are one of the fortunate ones.

If you do encounter something unnatural, we recommend the services of Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective.  Co-founder of Private Eye detective agency, Ivy Granger is a relatively new member of our small business community.  Her offices can be found on Water Street, in the heart of the Old Port.

Miss Granger has a remarkable ability to receive visions by the act of touching an object.  This skill is useful in her detective work, especially when locating lost items.  Whether you are looking for a lost brooch or missing persons, no job is too small for Ivy Granger—and she could certainly use the business.

We can also provide, upon request, a list of highly skilled undertakers.  If you are in need of their services, then we also kindly direct you to Harborsmouth Cemetery Realty.  It’s never too early to contact them, since we have a booming “housing” market.  Demand is quite high for a local plot—there are always people dying for a place to stay.

Chapter 2: Excerpt

I sniffed the air and smelled a whiff of sulfur.  Oh, Mab’s bloody bones!  My hand snagged a crucifix off the desk and I started muttering the Lord’s Prayer.  I may not follow any particular faith, but Kaye had taught me a trick or two.  Ten to one odds my client wasn’t bothered by today’s intense heat.
Color me pixed—the guy sitting on the other side of my desk was a demon.  My hand, the one holding the crucifix in a white-knuckled grip, was starting to shake.
“You seem to have some inkling as to my lineage, however I am not here for myself,” he said.  “Hell has no interest in you…yet.  I represent a client, someone very powerful who requires your special services.”
“You’re telling me that you’re some other dude’s lackey?” I asked.  My hand steadied as I held the crucifix out before me.
“Attorney,” he said, shooting me a narrow eyed glare.
“Lower than a lackey then,” I said.
I was playing with fire, or brimstone.  I should order the demon to leave, but there was something intriguing about his story.  I couldn’t help becoming curious.  Someone had made a deal with a devil, literally, to gain my services.  I wasn’t sure if I should be flattered or die of fright.
At least I knew my instincts were good—this was definitely going to be a long day and this really was a client from Hell.

Shadow Sight, the first novel in the Ivy Granger urban fantasy series, goes on sale in trade paperback and ebook editions July 24, 2012.
