“Should” being the key word.
Trouble is, Bryar is nowhere near the sleeping beauty life template. Not even close. She doesn’t like birds or woodland creatures. She can’t sing. And she certainly can’t stand Prince Philpot, the so-called “His Highness of Hedge Funds” that her aunties want her to marry. Even worse, Bryar’s having recurring dreams of a bad boy hottie and is obsessed with finding papyri from ancient Egypt. What’s up with that?
All Bryar wants is to attend a regular high school with normal humans and forget all about shifters, fairies, witches, and the curse that Colonel Mallory the Magnificent placed on her. And she might be able to do just that--if only she can just keep her head down until her eighteenth birthday when the spell that’s ruined her life goes buh-bye.
But that plan gets turned upside down when Bryar Rose meets Knox, the bad boy who’s literally from her dreams. Knox is a powerful werewolf, and his presence in her life changes everything, and not just because he makes her knees turn into Jell-O. If Bryar can’t figure out who—or what—she really is, it might cost both her and Knox their lives… as well as jeopardize the very nature of magic itself.
I had high hopes for WOLVES AND ROSES, but it didn't live up to my expectations.
I actually really enjoyed the concept of WOLVES AND ROSES. For most of the book, things were great. The writing was smooth and the characters developed nicely. Unfortunately at some point things got a little ridiculous.
One of my biggest issues started when characters started going off on tirades or started going out of their way to make a snarky comment that really didn't fit the moment. During situations of conflict instead of doing the thing that would fix things right away—even as they mentioned they needed to do x or y—they just continued to talk about doing it instead of doing it. Very frustrating and definitely ruined the flow of the story. It made me want to put the book down and call it a day. Alas I forced myself to keep reading in hopes that it would only last a short time only to be disappointed that it persisted until the end.
I really really wanted to love WOLVES AND ROSES. Unfortunately I don't see myself continuing with this series.

Interview + Giveaway: Fallen by Tenaya Jayne
What can you tell my readers about yourself that they might not know from looking on your bio or reading in another interview?
I am a private person because I’m fairly shy. New places and crowds make me nervous. I have an autistic son and it makes it hard for me to do basic things.
What do you enjoy doing on your down time?
As a mom of two boys and an independent author, I have little downtime. But writing is my passion so it does relax and energize me. In my other free moments, I enjoy reading, hanging out with my FB group, road trips and talking too long on the phone with my BFF who now lives far away from me.
What is your Favorite part of writing?
When inspiration strikes. That “lightbulb” moment when the scene or character falls into your head…. In that moment, I see how the scene unfolds and the characters reveal themselves to me—those moments are why I’m a writer. Sometimes I’m as surprised as the readers where the characters take me.
Do you have any certain routines you must follow as you write?
I’m really laid back. I almost have reversed OCD. But I do need music. Every book has an original playlist. That is a must for me. Each character and couple has a “sound” that suits them.
What are some of your Favorite books or Authors in the Urban Fantasy/ Paranormal Genres?
Shana Abe, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Scott Westerfeld, and Maggie Stiefvater to name a few.
How would you pitch Fallen to someone who has not heard of it before?
Erin will never submit to the man that killed her best friend…no matter what destiny says.
It’s a story of fantasy, romance, revenge and redemption.
Can you tell us a little bit about the world that Fallen is set in?
The world of Regia is like a fairytale landscape filled with elves, vampires, werewolves, ogres, shapeshifters, and dryads. Each race has its own culture. Portals connect Regia to other worlds. A world of magic, Regia is uniquely beautiful and dangerous.
Do you have a favorite scene in Fallen?
I do! Erin has been fighting every element of being paired with Maddox, but in spite of that, he gets her blood heated and she decides one night to just give in. It doesn’t go as she planned. I’ll show you a tiny excerpt.
She marched up to the front door and knocked loudly.
He opened the door, his expression confused.
“What do you want?”
“You. I want you.”
“No,” his voice was ice and he slammed the door in her face.
She stood there and just blinked a few times. Was this a joke? She backed up a step, unsure what to do. She didn’t feel anything yet, she hadn’t processed what just happened. He opened the door again and stepped out shoving his finger in her face.
“I’m sick of being used for sex! I will not be used anymore, and especially not by you of all people. You and I will have something real, or nothing at all!” he backed up and slammed the door again.
Erin wrung her hands, totally discombobulated. Yeah, okay. That just happened.
Which one character out of all your books was your favorite to write about? What about the hardest to write about?
The more books I write, the harder it is to answer questions like this. I would have to say Tesla from the original series, The Legends of Regia. She was both my favorite and the hardest. In this magical setting, she is, for lack of a better term, special needs. Having my own special needs child, my emotions were fully wrapped around this character. The pain and isolation she faces is acute, but in the end she saves her whole world. She is my ultimate champion and in a way, a tribute to my son.
What Other Projects can we look forward to reading from you?
I’m working on Feral, the sequel to Fallen. I expect to release it in January, and then the final book, Forsaken in the early summer. After that, I have about six books in the queue in my head. Another trilogy and some single titles.

Real life sucks. I bet you feel like that sometimes, maybe even right now. That’s why I write fantasy. I need to escape depression, bitterness, bills, illness…I could go on, but you get it. In the pages of fiction, I can slay the dragons, triumph over the bad guys, be immortal, and never struggle with love handles. For a short time, I can let it all go, and be everything I can’t be in real life. Maybe you’re hurting right now. Maybe you’re in the waiting room of the hospital, or just stuck in traffic. I’ve brought a portal. Come with me…Let’s ditch this crappy popsicle stand and go somewhere great, where we can forget all this, at least for a while.
That’s why I write. I’m not an author, I’m an escape artist.

Prologue

Stepping past the wide double doors opened into the huge atrium, the glass domed roof allowing the night to slide into the enclosed garden and had to fight back the bitterness. The anger.

The atrium, Seth had called it. It was a damned greenhouse and nothing more. A well protected, stone and bullet resistant glass enclosed room with only one entrance, the wide doors she’d stepped inside.
Moving further into the lush greenery she could find little pleasure in it. Despite her bare feet and the feel of grass beneath them, she found no satisfaction in it. Just as she found no satisfaction in the deep, wide pond trickling in the center of the trees surrounding it.
Heavily leaved, beaded with what appeared to be dew, but actually came from the water that misted from the pipes running along the steel frame supporting the glass above. The scent of the night wasn’t here. The chirp of insects, the scuttle of creatures created to stalk such shadowed beauty wasn’t here. It was sterile. Created by man rather than by nature.

She knew he was dead. He fell to the floor, blood spilling from his chest as he stared at Cassie with hatred.
Thirteen years. It had been thirteen years and still, Cassie remembered every second of it as though it had happened only moments before.
She would whelp monsters. Many said she was the monster.
At that thought she felt the presence. She didn’t smell it, there was no scent to warn her. She felt him. Her heart raced, her breathing was faster, and she could feel the whisper of the air drifting through the room.
What an odd sensation. She’d never felt that before, until him.
“If you’re caught, they’ll kill you.” She didn’t shift, did try to call out to the guards standing outside the doors.
She wasn’t frightened of him, though she sensed she should be. She should be terrified.
“Think they will?” he remained behind her, hidden. And she let him stay hidden, because she didn’t want to know…
“You know they will,” her voice trembled. “Are you here to kill me?”
“Do you want to die?” amusement laced his voice, amusement and something more, something dark and shadowed.
“I’ll die either way.” She stared into the pond, wondering at her own cowardice. “I won’t leave here alive you know?”
Silence met her question, but she knew he heard her, knew he hadn’t left. She could feel him in the air she breathed, in the whisper of movement as he eased closer.
“What makes you so certain of that?” curiosity filled his voice. A voice that was dark, sensual.
“I know things…” Sometimes, she knew terrible things. Things she didn’t want to know, didn’t want to see or sense.
“I won’t let you die, little halfling,” he whispered just behind her, causing her to stiffen at the warmth of his breath at her ear. “You’re mine.”
She stiffened in outrage, in anger but before she could turn and inform him just how insane he was, he was gone.
Wide eyed, her heart racing, she stared at the swaying leaves of the huge ferns behind her and heard a whisper of a chuckle somewhere in the darkness.
“Cassie.” The atrium doors were thrown open her father’s voice echoed through the artificial glade, dark with menace, but not toward her.
His enforcers rushed through the atrium, at least half a dozen, converging on her as she drew her robe on and tied the satin ribbons holding it closed.
“Cassie, sweetheart, I told you stay in our rooms.” Her father, Dash Sinclair, pushed through the foliage, his amber gaze piercing as it went over her. “Are you all right?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Looking around the silence of the atrium sadly then she knew her time there was finished. “It’s not like I’m actually outside, right?”
He stared behind her, his eyes narrowed, nostrils flaring as though testing the air for any unfamiliar scents.
“Come on, let’s get you back upstairs.” He held his hand out to her, his expression implacable when his gaze returned to hers. “It’s getting late.”
“And of course I’m still a toddler that has no idea how to defend myself, nor do I have gaurds on my ass twenty-four seven.” She ignored his outstretched hand and pushed past him instead. “For God’s sake, dad, I’m not ten.”
She didn’t wait around for his reply or the confusion she knew she would glimpse in his eyes. He couldn’t understand, couldn’t know the hell her dreams were becoming or the anger that clashed through her every waking second.
She was going to die here, soon. So very soon.
If her father had just let her have this time in this place, maybe she could have stolen something for herself. Maybe she could have figured out why the man whose gunsights she felt on the balcony outside her room, didn’t terrify her.
Why he drew her.
Why she ached for his warmth for just a moment, just for tonight. Because tomorrow night would be too late.
She’d be dead.

Guest Blog + Giveaway: Haunted by Shari Nichols
FIVE FUN FACTS ABOUT HAUNTED:
Hello, my name is Shari Nichols and I write paranormal romance. I’m here to talk a little about my new release HAUNTED... So sit back and relax. I hope this is fun! I’d love to give you some fun facts that served as inspiration for the story.
- The novel is based on three real live ghost stories all rolled into one. HAUNTED was initially inspired by the true account of my friend Steven’s experience of a haunting that took place for two years of his life. When he was a teen, his mother remarried a very wealthy, man and the family moved into a custom built mansion in southern NJ. Every night when he went to bed, an icy chill would creep up his spine. This was immediately followed by an eerie mist of an older woman who floated through the walls of his bedroom and into the closet, forcing him to burrow under the covers. At the time, he thought he was crazy and never breathed a word of this chilling tale to anyone. It wasn’t until years later when the family had gathered for the holidays; that each member finally came forward to share their own encounter with the ghost. They all cried, having gleaned some validation for their experience.
- The ghost in HAUNTED, an ethereal beauty by the name of Emily was inspired by the ghost that still roams the halls of the Logan Inn in New Hope, PA. This landmark restaurant is featured in chapter one of the book.
- Room number six, where many of the staff of the Logan claims to have spotted Emily, is also featured in the first chapter of the novel as well. (See if you can spot it.)
- Ghosts have certain smells that permeate the air when they enter a room. Apparently, the fragment scent of lavender leaves a trail whenever anyone has encountered Emily’s ghostly presence. The manager at the Logan explained to me, after I took a tour of the place, that Emily used to wear a sprig of it in her hair when she was alive. (They keep a picture of her displayed at the front desk)
- There are three other ghosts besides Emily, that still haunt the Logan, a man who dove into the Delaware to save a drowning woman and her child. Sadly, all three of them ended up dying inside the doors of the inn. Patrons rushed to save them, but were unsuccessful.
Pretty creepy, right? Have you ever experienced a spirit in your presence or taken a ghost tour? Do you believe in the supernatural? What’s your experience? Here’s a picture of the bar area where the three people died.

Up close, he was even more stunning and taller than she’d calculated. He exuded strength and masculinity, and when he focused that intense magnetism on her, all the air left her lungs, along with her ability to speak.
Genuine concern flashed in his whiskey colored eyes. “I’m sorry. Are you okay?” His voice was like warm chocolate, melting her insides. When he dropped his hands, Karly could still feel the imprints on her skin.
“Y-yes, I’m fine. I’m the one who should be apologizing. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.” Her heart pounded wildly in her chest. The man smelled incredible, like sandalwood and clean laundry.
“No need for apologies. Maybe you should sit down for a minute and have a drink with me.” There was elegance in the way he spoke that made her think of old money and private school.
For a moment Karly thought about taking him up on his offer, but she wasn’t in the frame of mind to pull off light conversation or flirty banter at this point. “Thanks, but I have to pass. This night, well, it didn’t turn out the way I’d hoped so I think it’s my cue to go.” She did her best to school her features, but inside she was feeling raw and vulnerable. The only thing she wanted to do was go home, soak in a hot bath, and lick her wounds.
His searing gaze swept over her and made butterflies flutter in her stomach “Perhaps I can make it better. Stay and have a drink with me.”
Karly glanced at his jacket for his nametag, but like her, he wasn’t wearing one. “I’m guessing you’re in either sales or politics, and if this is all for a campaign donation, I’m sorry, I already gave at the office.” Immediately she got a vibe telling her he was his own boss, which wasn’t hard to figure out. The man exuded confidence and power.
The throaty sound of his laughter raised goose bumps on her flesh. “So you’re funny and beautiful that’s quite a rare combo, Miss….?”
His words slid over her like a warm caress. A flush spread across her cheeks. She shook her head, a little dazed by the compliment. It would be hard not to succumb to his charms. If she was honest, his scent alone was driving her crazy. No, the man spelled danger. “I’m sorry. I should go. Good night and uh, nice running into you.” She sucked in a breath, turned and took a step toward the street.
“I don’t think you’ll get far without these,” he said in a bone-melting voice that forced her to turn around. He held up her keys in his hand.
“Right. Thanks.” She’d become so dazzled by his looks, she’d completely forgotten about them flying out of her hands
“My pleasure.” The way he said the word pleasure conjured images of their bodies tangled together, rolling around in satin sheets. The air sizzled with sexual tension. Slowly, he closed the distance between them and placed the keys in her hands. She purposely avoided touching him, but his fingers grazed hers, sending a spark of awareness up and down her arm.
“Don’t go,” he whispered.
“Why?” Karly was curious to hear what he’d say next.
“I can’t let you disappear into the night without telling me your name.” The words were spoken in a commanding tone that normally would've irritated her, but for some reason when he said them they hit every one of her buttons. “You can give me that much can’t you? It’s not every day I meet someone that captivates me and you have, quite thoroughly I might add.”
The scorching heat in his gaze made her shiver. She swallowed and tried to regain her equilibrium. It’d been a long time since a man had looked at her with such blatant desire. “I’m impressed— that’s quite a pick-up line. I’m curious, does it usually work?”
His smile was pure sin. “I’m not using a line on you. I just want the chance to talk to you. Give me five minutes, that’s all I ask.”
What happens after that?” His charisma began to melt her resolve. Karly stole a glance at his clothing. His sweater looked like cashmere and his suit jacket was perfectly tailored and cut to fit his body, only adding to his commanding presence.
“You decide. If you want to continue the conversation, I get your number, if not, then we part ways. No harm done.”
How could she say no when his approach was so refreshing “Nothing like cutting to the chase.” A guy that looked like him probably had women falling all over themselves to get his attention. It didn’t take a psychic to glean the man was a player. He was too smooth to be anything else. “Five minutes is all you get.”
“Five minutes is all I need.” He was persuasive, not to mention cocky as hell and yet for some reason she couldn’t seem to say no where he was concerned. Besides, his vibe was positive and cool with no warning signs.
